"How many a man has thrown up his hands at a time when a little more effort, a little more patience would have achieved success?" ~Elbert Hubbard
Diary:
Day 1 of the 2nd Fitness Challenge.
I have my workout plan ready.
I have my meal plan ready.
I have my schedule put together.
I am weighed in.
I just need to do it.
Notes:
First things first. I am an utter failure. I am not going to be doing the 5K this week as planned. Not because I don't want to (well, maybe part of that), but mostly because since I have not been training for the last months, it would be foolish and a possible injury-filled event.
So I feel like I have let myself down, but I am not all that hung up on it. Why? Because it is a new day, and although I have been pretty much away from the plan for many weeks, I am still doing pretty good, overall. I am still planning on doing a 5K, so just going to take longer than 6 months. I am not going to put the next possible date on the schedule yet. Let's just see how the next 3 months go.
Today, I am starting a 12 week challenge. (The second one this year). Here are the facts:
1) It starts today, and ends December 21st. (right before Christmas)
2) $160 for the winner (loser, actually), based on percentage of weight lost.
3) I weighed in at 429.6 lbs. (This was a positive for me, actually. Even though I was down to 407 earlier this year, the twenty-two pound increase isn't really all that much. It should come off easily)
4) My new workout routine will include weightlifting, abdominal focused excersices, balance and 'major muscle' work, and also cardio. In the first challenge I was focusing on cardio only, and was happening at the noon hour. This new workout will happen after work, in the early evening, so this will be a different setup. It will be a learning process for all of us.
5) I am getting some help with meal preperation. I have looked into getting a personal chef to help with creating meals for portion control and in this search, I found a place that I am going to try. It is called "Let's Dish" http://www.letsdish.com/ that creates fresh, healthy meals that I can just cook and eat. (or in my case, cook and eat one portion, then make left-over dishes for the two other portions.) The rationality is that I am starting to workout in the afternoon/evening. When I get done with my workouts, I am going to be dog tired. I am NOT going to feel like cooking, cleaning, etc after my workout. This way, I have the meals already prepared, I just pop them in the oven, or whatever, and then eat. Again, this is going to be a learning process. I have tried one of the chicken dishes, and it was tasty enough and filling, so I think this will work.
That is all I have to say. I will recap my 1st workout in tommorow's blog.
more later...

Sweet! I'm glad you have begun the "comeback story". 5K or no, the previous program seems to have been a success, not a failure, as you are so very much better off than you were in January. Congratulations. I fell happy and inspired when I read the new posts here.
To whom is that $160 challenge available? By whom is it being offered?
Yaaaaay Chazz! Great Plan! It will be fun and inspiring to follow your progress from your present plateau of success. As I calculate it, you are at 60 pounds of success and getting back on the horse, bicycle, ferris wheel, dirt bike, donkey, scooter, unicycle, parallel bar, trapeze or whatever metaphor you would enjoy to go on to even greater success. You are an inspiration to the Minnesota Twins!
